Born November 8, 1949, in Burbank, California, Bonnie Lynn Raitt is an American singer, songwriter, slide guitar player, and political activist. Raitt first came to prominence in the 1970s with several albums that were a unique blend of blues, rock, folk, and country. She disappeared off the grid for a bit but had a big comeback in the '90s with her albums Luck of the Draw and Longing in Their Hearts, which both sold millions of copies and included what is probably her most iconic song, "Something to Talk About." She is the winner of 10 Grammy Awards and has been named as one of the greatest singers, songwriters, and guitarists of all time. Raitt founded the political group Musicians United for Safe Energy and is involved with Alliance for Survival and the Aballone Alliance, amongst other causes. She was married to actor Michael O'Keefe from 1991-1999.
Bonnie Raitt's last name, "Raitt," is a Scottish name that comes from Nairnshire and is taken from the Castle of Raitt near Geddes. Other spellings include "Rait," "Raid," "Rate," and "Raithe." The first Raitt of note to come to America was Margaret Raitt in Virginia in 1714.
